Welcome to Anna's Banners
My mum taught me to sew on a treadle Singer sewing machine when I was a child, I bought my first sewing machine when I got my first job at the age of 17, it was a beautiful little Elna and I loved it. I started making banners on my Elna, when I was a teenager and took them on CND marches all over the country including Greenham Common.
I have continued to sew for pleasure, and one of my proudest times was when I became a Harrogate Scrubber during Covid. I made over 20 sets of hospital scrubs, numerous scrub caps and hundreds of face masks. I feature in the book about the Harrogate Scrubbers, and my patchwork piece is a part of the scrubbers quilts that have toured the country.

I try to use fabric and materials that are natural fibres, or recycled and repurposed material to lessen the impact on the environment. I love a good car boot sale or jumble sale to find materials that I can work with. My fascination with patterns and colours started when I lived in Africa in the 1990's where I was surrounded by creative and vibrant colours and inspiring people.
By adding my creativity onto a banner I can share a story or a message in a bold and exciting way.
